Impressed current cathodic system

Do you even know of one method by theme oh which you can prevent metal from getting rusty? This SME impressed current is something known as the cathodic system! Pipelines that carry oil and gas are prone to corrosion, which can be a huge problem for them. Rusty pipelines can weaken and break, a safety hazard to people and the environment. That is why we have an impressed current cathodic system to protect them

An impressed current cathodic systems are used to protect pipelines from being affected by the process of rust. It does this by utilizing electricity to prevent rust from ever happening. The anode and cathode are the important parts of this system. An anode is a metal rod implanted in the ground near the pipeline. The pipeline we want to keep from rusting is actually the cathode.

Effective Corrosion Control with Impressed Current Cathodic Protection

This system, as you can see works in a similar manner for what we said earlier. It still has two principal parts: an Anode and a Cathode. The anode (metal Rod) that is buried into the ground near by to the metal object which requires protection and a cathode. The object like pipeline or boats etc. whom we want protected from this corrosion action

Electricity is then used to keep the rust from forming and this technology knows as Rust Control. It still consists of the same two parts we described earlier — an anode and a cathode. The anode is typically a metal rod situated in the ground very near to whatever it is we are trying to protect, and the cathode being that item itself – which should remain rust free.
